Ardour
This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit.
Ardour are lined, stranded mittens, knit on smaller than usual needles to provide warmth. The optional laceweight liner adds softness and a touch of wind resistance. Two cuff options are provided: a ribbed cuff and a colourwork cuff beginning with an i-cord cast on. The short colour runs make these a pleasure to knit. The longest run is 4 stitches, so no liners are necessary in terms of keeping fingers from catching in stranded yarn. The liners are purely for enjoyment, warmth and beauty.
Knitters should be familiar with standard mitten construction, stranded knitting, reading a chart, and arranging stitches on either a long circular needle or double points for knitting in the round.
Size small results in a mitten with a 7” (18 cm) circumference around the palm. Medium measures 8” (20 cm) and large measures 9” (23 cm). The larger sizes are achieved by knitting with a larger needle at a looser gauge.
Approximately 110 - 130 yards (100 - 119 m) of main colour are required
90 to 110 yards (80 - 100 m) of contrasting colour
160 to 170 yards (145-165 m) of laceweight yarn for the liner
Needles: double pointed needles or circular needles for knitting in the round: 3.5 mm (US 4) for small, 4.0 mm (US 6) for medium and 4.5 mm (US 7) for large.
Special thanks to my test knitters and my amazing tester and tech editor Meredith aka mereoshop.
