A total revamping of my 13-year old vest pattern! Top down instead of bottom-up, edgings knit as you go instead of being knit on later, A-line shaping instead of waist shaping, worsted instead of aran-weight yarn.
This simple open-front vest has a pretty little slipped stitch cable detail and edgings that are knit along with the body. Sizing is determined by measuring from the center of one underarm to the center of the other across your back and choosing the closest size. If you are between sizes, go up.
Construction begins with the top of the back. After knitting to the underarm, back stitches are put on hold and then each front is knit by picking up stitches at the shoulders. Once the tops of both fronts are complete, the sections are joined and knit to the bottom edge. A knitted-on bind-off minimizes rolling.
