Argyle patterns can create some of the most beautiful knitted pieces but may seem daunting to knit. This pattern is a great beginning to practice the basic techniques of argyle knitting and create some cute, versatile mittens for everyone in the family. The best way to learn a new technique is to dive in. Before you make a big commitment to a sweater or other large garment, practice intarsia and duplicate stitch with this pattern. Included in the pattern are 3 sizes children, women and men and instruction for fingerless, closed top mitten ad and a flip top as well. You can create 3 different styles of mittens from just one pattern for everyone in the family.
The mittens are knit from a simple fingerless mitten pattern I designed and have made several times. I decided to add a little interest with the argyle motif. I had a Columbia fleece mill spun by Stonehedge Fiber Mill though any worsted weight yarn will work.
This pattern works great with hand spun. I spun a worsted weight 2 ply alpaca/Jacob blend for the main color and used leftover hand spun sock fingering weight with the strands doubled for the contrasting colors.
Once you try this pattern you will be hooked on intarsia and will make mittens for everyone in the family.
