Aria Cowl
Introducing the Aria Cowl, a beautifully crafted accessory that adds instant sophistication to any outfit. The name “Aria,” meaning “air” in Italian and often associated with a melodious solo in an opera, perfectly captures the essence of this elegant piece.
Lightweight yet cozy, it drapes effortlessly around the neck, providing the warmth of a scarf without the bulk. The timeless charm of the granny stitch adds texture and depth, creating a versatile accessory that can dress up casual wear or add a soft, romantic touch to more formal attire.
This is not a beginner project, requiring some experience with variations of basic stitches and techniques to successfully complete. However, it’s a great project for practicing because of the repetitive nature of the stitch pattern.
⭐️ The Design
The cowl is worked in one piece, beginning with 2 rounds of single crochet. The 6 round pattern repeat includes the modern granny stitch (which employs double crochets and double crochet 3 together), half double crochets, and camel stitch (half double crochet worked in the 3rd loop).
The stitches used in this cowl design are variations of basic stitches.
⭐️ Skill Level: Advanced beginner/Intermediate because of the variety of stitches and techniques used beyond the basics
⭐️ The Yarn
Any DK weight yarn will work. You’ll need approx. 360 yds total.
The sample is worked in Miss Babs “Yowza Mini”, a DK weight superwash merino wool in 2 colors.
While I chose a luxury yarn to make my Aria Cowl, you can use any DK weight yarn you prefer. Create your very own unique look by choosing a different fiber content or customizing the colors you use. The Aria Cowl makes a great scrap buster!
