Aria's Blanket, Trees & Flowers & Runes, Oh my!
A symphony of nature inspired lace, Ancient Runes, and a sparking star adorn this lap/baby blanket.
The central diamond motif is worked in the round and the 12 subsequent panels are worked flat.
Once each new lace panel section is completed, the stitches are not bound off, but left live. Additional sts for each round are picked up from along the side(s) of each completed panel.
The construction is rather like that of a log cabin quilt.
The pattern is fully charted to the border. The instructions for the border are written out, and is worked in the round.
I used Yarns of Italy’s Innamorata DK. While not listed as a superwash wool, I ran my gauge swatch through the washer and gave it a light tumble in the dryer. While it passed the test, a very gentle machine washing and drying flat is recommended.
Another standard DK yarn that gives you the gauge indicated and has approximately 124 m (136 yds) /50 g ball could be substituted.
The two colour version is shown here in shade no. 41, Wilma a warm salmon pink and no. 1, Georgene, a sparkling white. This would look as lovely in a single shade too.
One colour:
11 balls or 550 g with 1364 m (1496 yds)
Two colours:
Main Colour - 10 balls or 500g with 1240 m (1360 yds) Contrast colour - 1 ball or 50 g with 124 m (136 yds)
I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I enjoyed designing and making it!
