This stole continues my “Around the World” collection. I named it Norway as its pattern consists of components traditionally used in Norwegian knitting and embroidery.

I invite you to make a stole with a steek. Many knitters have long wanted to try this technique but were stopped by the fear to cut knitted fabric. In my opinion, a stole is the best form to try yourself and to conquer your fear of scissors.

This stole is worked in the round to the end, forming a tube. The circumference of the tube is equal to the stole width (without the finishing). The length of the stole may vary depending on the yarn weight and the tension of your knitting. You can choose the desired length of the stole as you go.
After completing a tube, a straight line is cut along the center of the steek; then folded hem is worked along all four sides of the stole to hide the cut edges.

The steek itself is a group of extra 6-12 stitches that are made for future cutting. The first and the last stitches of a steek are worked with the same color strand (I prefer to use MC), sts between them are worked in a ‘chequerboard’ pattern that allows them to stick better to each other.

Suggested Yarn: I recommend to use 100% sheep wool, 450-550 m/100 g (fingering/socks weight).
You will need yarn of two colors - for background (MC) and for the pattern (CC). You are welcome to choose two solid color yarns; one solid color yarn and one variegated yarn; two variegated yarns will work well here, too.
You want to be absolutely certain that your yarn wouldn’t bleed! Check the color fastness of the yarn with a swatch.

Yarn usage will depend on your knitting tension, the yarn weight, and the desired finished size. This repeating pattern allows you to adjust both length and width of the stole. For the medium size stole (approximately 70 cm x 200 cm) you will need about 280 - 300 g of each color.
I used Knoll Yarns Supersoft NM 11.5/2 and 3.5 mm needles. My stole measures (after blocking)
240 x 70 cm.
5.7 skeins (280g, 1635 m) of each: color 457 Mariner and color 119 Iced.

Difficulty level - moderate.

Skills required - stranded color (Fair Isle) knitting; picking up sts along edges; working picot folded hems.

Gauge may vary depending on yarn weight, needles size, and your personal knitting tension.

Needles and Notions: Knitting needles 2.5 and 3.5 mm (double-pointed and circular); spare needles/cables; stitch markers; scissors; 1.75 mm crochet hook; tapestry needle.

Многие давно хотели попробовать эту технику, но останавливает страх перед разрезанием вязаного полотна.
На мой взгляд, палантин - самая удобная форма для того, чтоб попробовать свои силы в круговом жаккарде со стиками и избавиться от страха перед ножницами.
Связан палантин по кругу, в виде цилиндра, длина окружности - это ширина (или высота) готового палантина без учета отделки, длину можно регулировать в процессе вязания. Вяжем со стиками, затем полотно разрезаем и обвязываем каймой по периметру.

Стик - это участок шириной в 6-12 петель, по которому впоследствие будет сделан разрез. На этом участке нити разных цветов чередуются в шахматном порядке для лучшего сцепления друг с другом.

Материалы. В качестве пряжи я рекомендую использовать овечью шерсть без примесей, 450 - 550 метров в 100 гр.
Понадобится пряжа двух цветов: для фона и рисунка. Можно использовать либо две однотонных, либо однотонную и секционного крашения, либо две секционноокрашенных.
Обратите внимание на стойкость окрашивания пряжи.

Расход зависит от того, какой размер готового изделия вы хотите получить. Поскольку жаккардовый узор повторяется, вы можете выбрать любой удобный для себя размер в длину. Для палантина среднего размера (примерно 70 см шириной и 200 см длиной) вам понадобится в среднем по 280 - 300 грамм пряжи обоих цветов.

Уровень сложности средний. Для успешного выполнения необходим навык вязания жаккарда, а также подъема петель и вывязывания обвязки.

Плотность вязания: может варьироваться в зависимости от толщины выбранной вами пряжи и номера спиц.

Рекомендована пряжа: 450 - 550 метров в 100 граммах.

Необходимые инструменты: спицы № 2,5 - 3,5 круговые, дополнительные спицы или лески, маркеры, ножницы, крючок № 1,75, гобеленовая игла.
