Arria knitted
Arria is knitted using garter stitch and intarsia (with only three balls of yarn). It’s a bottom-up shawl and easy to memorise after the first couple of repeats.
Pattern Tutorial: To accompany this pattern I have created a pattern tutorial. This is available through a private YouTube link that can only be accessed by people that have bought the pattern for Arete (knitted).
The tutorial takes you through the materials needed, shawl construction, key techniques used in the pattern (including three options for reinforcing your steek sts), blocking hints and getting in touch.
If you make this shawl please do upload your WIP and FO on Ravelry. It would be great to see it on Instagram too - #ArriaShawl #FayDHDesigns @faydhdesigns
Yarn: RiverKnits 4 ply Bluefaced Leicester, 400m/437yds per 100g.
Yarn A - 1 x 20g mini skein of ‘Shadow Green’
Yarn B - 2 x 100g of ‘Shroom’
Yarn substitutes: Something with the same or very similar meterage. It can be a different blend but be aware that meterage requirements will change if you substitute yarns. I have made Arria in this suggested high-twist wool and also in a loser spun, non-superwash wool and both worked well.
Needles: 3.5mm needles and a 80cm+ cable.
Time: about 36 hours to knit
Gauge/tension: unblocked 13 sts and 24 rows over 5cm. Blocked 11 sts and 21 rows over 5cm.
Meterage: 60m of Yarn A and 740m of Yarn B.
Blocked dimensions: 204cm/80.25” for top edge, two equal sides of 112cm/44” and a depth of 48cm/19”.
