Arrowhead Shawl
Named ‘Arrowhead’ as the triangle shapes resemble flint arrowheads often found as evidence of ancient settlements
along the chalky cliffs of the South Coast of England where we are based.
This pattern is written in UK crochet terms and has written instructions and charts.
Size: after blocking. Bright version - width 165cm. Length from starting point to edge tip 83cm. Heritage version –
width 186 cm, length from starting point to edge tip 93cm.
Level: Confident/Advanced. Although it is made up of basic stitches like chain, double crochet, treble and half treble,
this shawl uses increase and decrease techniques to form the lace pattern which need some prior experience and “trust
in the process”.
Gauge:
As this shawl is ‘one size fits all’ and is blocked quite aggressively to stretch out the lacy patterns, gauge is only important to ensure that you don’t run out of yarn.
Using treble crochet stitches (after blocking) the gauge works out as 4 stitches and 3 rows per 1”/2.5cm square. If you are aware that you crochet particularly loosely, go down to a 2.75mm crochet hook to achieve gauge OR add another 20% to the yarn requirements to compensate.
Tools needed:
3mm crochet hook, stitch markers, scissors or snips, wool needle for weaving in ends, blocking boards, wires and pins.
Yarns used:
1200-1300m of any 4 ply/sock weight yarn will work for this pattern. Yarns for the 2 versions included in with the pattern are detailed below, and the pattern includes yarn substitute details.
