Arrowmont Mitts
A flip-top mitten with three charts, customizable thumbs, knit in a super squooshy worsted-weight Merino yarn.
Size: width is designed for a W medium (7.5” around). Length is customizable to your hands.
Yarn: 2 colors of a worsted weight superwash merino yarn such as Karabella Aurora 8, Filatura di Crosa Zara 8, or Madeline Tosh Vintage. Average length uses one 50g ball of each color for a pair of mittens (100g total).
Needles: 40” circular needle or dpns in US 6 (or whatever size you need to yield a firm fabric, in a gauge of 6 sts/in. in colorwork)
Notions: tapestry needle, piece of smooth waste yarn, restickable highlighter tape for keeping track of your row on the charts (optional, but life changingly useful!).
LOTS of video support available! www.happygocrafty.com/videos.
Easy to print pattern has 3 pages of text & charts and one page of just photos, so you can print only the first three pages without wasting ink.
Directions are written for intermediate knitters. Skills needed: long tail cast on, backwards loop cast on (over thumb gusset), stranded knitting, increasing with k1fb, picking up stitches, decreasing with k2tog, holding stitches on waste yarn, reading a charted colorwork design, and working a charted thumb gusset at the same time as the back-of-hand chart.
