The stitch pattern appears to be deceptively difficult but in reality it’s quite simple. It is a lovely stitch for a cowl because both sides have a different appearance and are equally beautiful. Increases and decreases are worked in every LC round. This cowl combines two-color brioche with two-color garter stitch. Since both have attractive qualities, it makes sense that they would work well together.

The Semilla yarn really shows great stitch definition. I used the following colors: Light Color = 104 (deep rose) and Dark Color = 102 (dark gray), 2 balls of each color. This cowl weighs 170gm.

I need to clear up a few things about the pattern instructions. If you use the Italian CO, when you are told to cast on and end with a DC purl st, you should then release that stitch and make it a DC half hitch. Don’t add another half hitched stitch.

Also IMPORTANT - after working the Italian CO, if you want to work the WS rows to avoid the twisting of the cast on, at the end of Row 2 RS DC you are instructed to “Turn.” DO NOT TURN, start to work in the round.
