An Ascot is a neckband with wide, pointed wings (thanks Wikipedia!). When tying a knitted scarf, we often find the portion wrapped around your neck is too thick. This pattern follows the Ascot concept by narrowing the center portion of the scarf, leaving the ends much wider, making it easy to tuck under a collar.

This pattern is adaptable to any weight yarn but looks best in either DK or fingering weight yarn. The wings of the scarf are in Fisherman’s Rib, a variation on a rib stitch and creates a lush, squishy fabric. It uses an even # of stitches and is therefore easily modified to any width. Before you start the pattern, I recommend you do a swatch to check your gauge. While the width of the scarf varies, you’ll want to make sure your stitches look good before going too far.
