These mittens were originally designed for fingering weight yarn, but they look as elegant (and feel even warmer) in worsted yarn. The pattern is easy enough even for beginners, as long as you are comfortable working in the round, making increases & decreases, and willing to try Kitchener stitch for invisible seaming (don’t worry, there is also an alternative finishing option, if seaming is not your thing).

The pattern also offers suggestions for modifications, including for turning the mittens into fingerless gloves or adding a ribbed cuff.

Mittens are worked in the round, from the bottom up. The mittens can be worked using a set of DPNs, or using circular needles for magic loop, whatever is your favorite method.

The pattern is for women’s medium size; however, it can be easily adjusted in size.

Techniques:

  • knit and purl stitches
  • shaping with decreases and increases
  • Kitchener stitch for invisible seaming
  • shaping thumb gusset

Needles: US 6 (4mm) or 7 (4.5mm)
