This is the Ashley Winter Hat! If you’ve looked through my patterns before, no doubt you’ve seen my Ashley Pocket Shawl (and if you haven’t, you can find it here). This hat was designed to be a companion for the shawl. The hat and the shawl compliment each other and make the perfect winter set!
For this pattern, I have provided directions for 3 adult sizes. But, it is extremely customizable. You only have to crochet the rows for the brim in multiples of 4 until it fits comfortably around you head, then follow the directions that are set out in the pattern. You can even use the directions to make children’s sizes.
For the sample, I used approximately 80 - 100 grams per hat of a variety of weight 4 aran yarns. The taupe one is made in Lion Brand Pound of Love, the mustard/purple one is wool-ease and Mandala Tweed, and the black/rainbow is Big Twist Value and Lion Brand Landscapes.
Each of the sample hats are a version of the adult medium with more or less rows of the Celtic Weave stitch, so you can see what differences can be made in the size based on changing that element.
Gauge is not super important, and you can use pretty much any weight 4 yarn without having to make many changes to get the perfect size.
Thank you to my testers:
Kat, Tara, Opal, Lisa, and Jenna!
