This is a pattern for a lacy shoulder cowl. The finished cowl measures 12 1/2 inches high x 58 inches around. The lace cowl can be worn as a spring garment, draping over your shoulders in a way that won’t fall off. Or it can be made to be warmer, by wrapping it around your neck and shoulders, as seen in the pictures. However, you may have a favorite way to wear cowls that’s different from mine. The Japanese lace stitch is a very open one, so it is suitable for at least three seasons, in addition to being very feminine. The stitch is a combination of Japanese lace ladders and mock cables.

The lace stitches are both charted, and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a good working knowledge of both knitting, purling, and lace knitting.)

The yarn used in the sample is made with Mrs. Crosby Plays: Hat Box yarn in colorway Monkey Orchid and requires approximately two skeins of it.

The sample was expertly test knitted by Mimi Sevimli who can be contacted at, karal3@ yahoo.com.
