I wanted these mittens to be interesting with the Fair Isle pattern, warm for the cold days of winter, and fun to knit. As a challenge to traditional Fair Isle mittens, this pattern wraps around your hand but still uses traditional motifs. Some traditionalists would call this is stranded with Fair Isle motifs; I am less traditional. The heavier yarn and size 9 needles form the pattern quickly. The braids will keep your mittens from curling at the bottom and look more difficult than they are. The after-thought thumb is placed two stitches over from the usual placement to make the mittens fit just a little better. Hopefully, you will find the the same pleasure in knitting these mittens that I found in designing and knitting them.
