When I’m doing something a lot, I tend to think about it while I’m half-asleep. I’ve been doing stuff like playing computer games, composing music, planning lessons, knitting, and designing in my head. Ideas seem to come easier to me in that state. One night, some months ago, I dreamt up red and black gloves that looked a bit like these.

When I heard the Fingerless Glove Fanatics group on Ravelry were looking for hosts for their monthly knit-a-longs, it was the push I needed to bring these gloves to life. The starting date for my knit-a-long fell on the day before my cousin Asta’s confirmation, and she loves both fingerless gloves and the colors red and black. The gloves I test knit and the naming of this pattern are my gifts to her.
