ASTRA is a stranded colourwork sweater with a top-down construction. Starting with the neck, the sweater is worked seamlessly top down, using short rows to shape neckline. The increases of the yoke are done using M1L and M1R methods.
After the yoke, the body and sleeves are separated while casting on stitches for underarms. This sweater has 2 options for the sleeves: straight with fitted cuffs or tapered.
As the sweater is knitted top-down, you can decide on the length as you go. The length of the body and sleeves depends on your height and body proportions. The pattern and the yardage has been given for an average height of 165 cm/ 5 ‘ 5’’ and sweater measuring just above the hip. Please adjust the lengths according to your individual body measurements.
The measurements listed below are for the final sweater. The pattern comes in 10 sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) (7, 8, 9, 10) with finished sweater bust circumference measuring 90 (95, 100, 105, 110, 120) (130, 140, 150, 160) cm / 36 (38, 40, 42, 44, 48) (52, 56, 60, 64) inches. Choose the size that is 10-20 cm / 4-10 inches larger than your actual bust circumference.
Yarn: Straight sleeve version: Soft Donegal Singles from Donegal Yarns (100 g - 380 meters/ 416 yards or other fingering weight yarn. The sample is knit with Soft Donegal Singles colour 5587 as MC and 5520 as CC.
Tapered sleeve versions: Drops Flora 50 g - 210 m / 230 yards. The sample is knit with Drops Flora colour 08 as MC and 03 as CC
Yardage: MC: 1000 (1050, 1100, 1160, 1210, 1300) (1380, 1450, 1580, 1700) meters / 1094 (1150, 1203, 1269, 1324, 1422) (1510, 1586, 1729, 1860) yards
CC: 155 (160, 170, 180, 190, 200) (210, 220, 230, 240) meters / 170 (175, 186, 197, 208, 219) (230, 241, 252, 263) yards
Please note that your yarn consumption will depend on your gauge and on the length of your finished garment. Tapered sleeve version will require slightly less MC yardage.
Gauge: 22 sts/ 36 rnds per 10 cm/ 4 inches in stockinette in the round on size B needles
Needles:
Size A - 80-120 cm Circular needles - 2.5 mm (US 1.5 )
Size B - 80-120 cm Circular needles - 3.5 mm (US 4)
Please note you might need to change the size of your needles to achieve gauge
Other materials:
Waste yarn , cable needle, tapestry needle, measuring tape, stitch markers (including a unique marker for BOR), row counter, scissors.
