Asteria
Part of the Malabrigo Quickies Programme for 2019, Asteria is a lightweight yet cosy cowl designed to showcase one or two skeins of beautiful Malabrigo Washted, and works particularly well in a variegated colourway. The gauge is deliberately loose to really get the most out of your yarn whilst still providing a gloriously squishy finished product. Named for Asteria, the Greek goddess of falling stars, the cowl is inspired by images of our galaxy. The knotted openwork stitch moves across a background of plain stockinette creating a beautiful interplay of texture and colour. The cowl is knit flat and then seamed using kitchener stitch, and is available in two sizes.
Sizes: S (L)
Dimensions: 7.5” x 30” (7.5” x 60”) / 19cm x 76cm (19cm x 152cm)
Yarn: 1 (2) skein(s) of Malabrigo Washted, or 210 (420) yds / 192 (384) metres worsted weight yarn
Samples are knit in Malabrigo Washted in Pearl (small) and Selva Peruana (large).
Needles: 6mm / US 10 needles (or size needed to achieve gauge)
Other materials: crochet hook, waste yarn, yarn needle.
Gauge:18 sts x 29 rows = 4” x 4” / 10 cm x 10 cm in stockinette stitch (blocked).
Meeting gauge is not crucial for this project but please note that it will have an impact on yarn consumption. At gauge each pattern repeat should use less than 40g of yarn.
