Asterism scarf
Asterism is a knitting pattern built out of the star stitch—a lovely, textured stitch that gives your work a beautiful texture. The shawl has a lovely kite-shaped form, making it easy and comfortable to wear daily. Asterism means a group of stars, which is literally what this scarf is. A group of star stitches – only knitted. Enjoy this straightforward knitting pattern, perfect for a project that doesn’t require too much attention.
General information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements: I used La bien Airmee Merino DK in colorway Amege for this pattern. This yarn is available in skeins of 115 grams with a length of 230 meters. As three sizes are available, you need 150 (225, 300) grams of yarn. This means you need 345 (520, 690) meters of yarn. I made a DK sample; however, any yarn will work—it will only deliver a different outcome in size.
Knitting needles needed: This pattern calls for 5.0mm needles. You can use DPN needles or circular needles.
Size: Small, medium, and large sizes are available. The example shown is an L size. The scarf will have a stretched triangle shape.
The scarf’s length from tip to tip will be 140 (170, 210) cm / 55 (67, 83) inches.
The width at the center of the scarf will be 27 (33, 36)cm / 11 (13, 15) inches.
The pattern is built up from the star stitch. This is a standard knitting stitch, which I have briefly explained in this pattern, but if you would like to know it better, there is a link to a video to help you understand it faster and better. It isn’t complex and perfect for a knitter with little experience.
A gauge swatch isn’t that important for this pattern. You always work with larger needles for the yarn chosen, making your work more stretchable and textured. The gauge isn’t accurate as the scarf’s shape is also changing.
If the most significant size pattern isn’t big enough, you can always make it larger. The pattern is written to make this very easy.
The pattern contains written instructions and a photo guide for the star stitch. As it is a really straightforward pattern - you will quickly get the hang of it.
After purchase you can download a PDF file in all available languages - which are Dutch and English.
