Astrid Childs Cardigan
The cardigan is worked from the top down, back and forth in one piece. At the underarm, the body and sleeves are divided, with the sleeves placed on scrap yarn. The body is then completed back and forth. Sleeves are then completed in the round.
All Fairisle sections are charted separately at the end of the pattern. There are 2 options for Chart D – a flower or snowflake.
If the body is worked in stocking stitch, the cardigan has a looser fit. If the body is worked in the diamond pattern, it has a closer, more structured fit. The change to stocking stitch for the body section can be a little “baggy”, depending on your tension, as you no longer have the colourwork floats to add structure to your work. If you prefer, you can change to 3.50mm needles for this section.
