from the designer: “Maybe it was growing up in the late ’70s and early ’80s, but I am partial to stars and rainbow striping when it comes to decoration. After my husband (who obviously knows the way to my heart) bought me this quartet of spice cabinet-hued Goddess Yarns as a gift, I decided to make a lid and scarf with a modern take on that classic combination.

”I don’t like wind blowing through my winter hats (who does?), so I chose to use both Fair Isle patterning and a rolled brim to double the thickness throughout the hat. I can personally attest that it is both warm and wind-proof! In addition, the scarf can either be worn long and cool or doubled up twice and pulled snugly through the loop in response to changes in the weather.

“The name of the hat refers to both the star pattern and the horizontal 4-color rainbow reminiscent of the upper deck of the former home of the Houston Astros.”
