Atalanta's Adventure
Some sources say that Atalanta, Princess of Arcadia, was a fictional character in Greek mythology that was abandoned on a mountainside by her father and raised by a she-bear sent by Artemis. Others say that she was simply another persona of Artemis. Still others say she was a Greek warrior goddess of hunting and competitive running who was known for her speed as a runner, power as a wrestler, commitment to independence and loyalty to Artemis. But they all agree that her fame was derived from her adventures with Jason and the Argonauts on their quest to capture the Golden Fleece and bring it safely back to Greece. This adventure entailed considerable dangers and her reputed bravery while facing numerous tests and perils along their journey made her the first heroine in Greek mythology.
This wavy stitch pattern combines twisted stitches and lacework to depict Atalanta and the Argonauts sailing off across the sea on their great adventure. This pattern was designed to work with self-striping yarn, but any color way of your choice will work. The lace pattern on the leg and instep create more positive ease than the patterns for the cuff and sole. For a good fit, it may be necessary to go up a needle size for the cuff and down a needle size for the foot.
