My husband and I managed to escape for a few days during a very hectic period of home renovations. I began this shawl and could feel the calm settling in deeper with each row. Although we were not in an Auberge I could close my eyes and imagine that I was and soon the throaty voice of Chris Rea started to fill my head as well. Now that Auberge is complete I need just to run my fingers over the soft yarn to be transported to a place of peace.

Auberge is a crescent shawl knit from hem up. The lace pattern is set against a reverse stockinette background and along with garter stitch it is perfect for a subtle variegated or a kettle dyed yarn.

This shawl is knit on one long circular needle to accommodate the large number of stitches. Because the short rows are worked in the garter stitch section there is no need to wrap and turn the stitches before turning. Auberge can easily be adapted to be made smaller or larger by adding additional repeats. Instructions are included in the pattern for adjusting the size of the shawl.

Skills Required: Decreases, increases, basic lace sitiches (yo, k2tog, ssk, double decreases)

Although gauge is not critical in this pattern overall size and yarn requirements will be affected.
