I had one skein of squishy alpaca and I was curious how the classic feather and fan pattern would work in the round. I cast on for a child’s size hat and found, to my surprise, that the pattern spiraled around the hat. I still haven’t sorted out why it spirals. The prototype was given to my neighbor Audrey. She has a pink version now too. Sometimes she wears them both at once…

Any worsted weight yarn can be used.

For infant size, use DK or sport weight yarn. For larger sizes add stitches to the cast on in multiples of 18.
