Aug: Sunshine Washcloth
Summer sun, is there anything better? Carefree afternoons by the lake, ocean, or running through sprinklers under the shinning sun takes us all back to childhood. This pattern is a fun, fast project that is sure to bring a smile to your face as you make it, and use it. And you can spread smiles by giving a knit dishcloth to someone else!
Using just knits and purls, watch the sun come to life in the center of this washcloth.
Gauge
16 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (20cm) in Stockinette
NOTE: Gauge is not critical for this project. If you knit tight, go up a needle size, if you knit loose, go down a needle size
This is a small washcloth, you could make it larger by increasing the seed stitch border (e.g., cast on an extra 4 stitches, do five rows of seed stitch rather than three and have five stitches in the seed stitch edge before starting the center of the washcloth - stitch markers would be very helpful for this!)
NOTE: I like the way a seed stitch border lays and the texture it provides for scrubbing. You could easily replace it with a garter stitch border instead if you prefer. To do so, knit rows 1-3, knit the first three and last three stitches on rows 4-34 and knit rows 35-37
This pattern would also be suitable for a potholder/trivet
or displayed as a decorative table or shelf mat.
