Both knitting and crochet techniques are used in this pattern. The bulk of the pattern is knit in the round while the edge and brim are crochet.

If you are new to crochet, the basic stitches used are sc, sl st, and ch1. Detailed pictures are provided with the instructions to do the X in the edging. Instructions for the crocheted flower are also provided.

This pattern is written for sizes 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months, 2-3 years, small adult and large adult.
