While making this hat, I felt inspired by the whimsical, complex character of Auri from Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller chronicle. A mystical character referred to as “Little Moon Fae,” she is a delicate woman who contains hidden depths of magical power. I can imagine her wearing this hat while tiptoeing barefoot through the catacombs of the university in the winter, gathering treasures and tending to her mysterious purposes.

This hat features celtic-inspired cables with syncopated loops, and a bit of unexpected garter stitch in the main cable adds interest. This plush Malabrigo Maxima can only be described as “dreamy.” The top of the hat incorporates decreases into the cable pattern.

And a double-thick brim for the safekeeping of your ears, or knit an even longer brim if you’d like. If you’re making a longer version if this hat, you’ll definitely need two skeins of the suggested yarn.

This pattern provides charted and written instructions for the cables.
