Aurora
This gradient scarf and fingerless glove duo got it’s name both from my niece, whose middle name is Aurora, and also from the astronomical phenomenon, “Aurora borealis” or “Northern Lights” in the northern hemisphere or “Aurora australis” in the southern hemisphere. This phenomenon occurs when electrically charged particles from the sun collide once they enter Earth’s atmosphere. The result is an amazing “light show” in the sky consisting of brilliant colors cascading overhead. Those colors inspired the gradient color shift in these patterns.
So, what is gradient knitting? Gradient knitting is when multiple strands of yarn are held together while knitting. For example, in this pattern, initially 3 of the same color are held together. When it is time to begin shifting colors, the knitter cuts one of the original strands away and joins the new color. At this point, they are working with two strands of color A and one strand of color B. This process is continued as prescribed in the pattern.
