This design was inspired by a favorite top with a drapey cowl neck that I sewed about 10 years ago. I gave myself the challenge of recreating that top as a knit sweater, with some extra flourishes. I began by selecting a reversible lace pattern, in case the neckline drapes with the wrong side showing. The lace pattern of the cowl reappears as a godet in the sleeve hem, and a complementary cable pattern provides waist shaping. I chose a light pink color to show off the stitch patterns, and a fine merino-silk blend to help the neckline and godet drape well. I used needles slightly larger than recommended, which gives the sweater a light, ethereal quality. The color of the yarn and lightness of the sweater reminded me of the autumn dawns, which inspired the name of the design.
