Auteur Cowl (Continuous)
This is the Auteur Cowl with more of a set final form—it’s just a cowl, and doesn’t require buttons. This cowl features a reversible fabric, so you can choose the side you like best at the end. It’s knit flat and then joined for a continuous, seamless neckwarmer. The slipped-stitch lace is modded here to work as a mesh.
Overall, this is an engaging but not excessively challenging pattern, with rich texture, eyelets, and a nice reversible fabric that’s slightly different on each side.
Knit the cowl in just ¾ of a skein of Malabrigo Yarn Sock or Arroyo, a similar a amount of your own handspun (the sample is shown in grey merino singles), or add more yarn to make a longer loop scarf.
Materials:
- 290-350 yards fingering- to sportweight handspun yarn
- 1 24” circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge. (Work is flat.)
- spare 24” circular needle in size needed for gauge or 1-2 sizes smaller
- crochet hook for provisional cast-on and Russian grafting, 2.25mm or size suited to yarn
- smooth scrap yarn for provisional cast-on
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
Gauge is 19 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm of texture pattern stitch, worked flat and blocked lightly. Please be sure to check your gauge.
