This fun beret pattern is knitted in the round and features a two-row eyelet stitch pattern imbedded within a seven-row ruching stitch. The pattern stitch count is doubled when working the ruching stitch which is done on the smaller size needles. When the seven-row ruching stitch pattern area is completed the knitter changes to larger size needles and knits 2 together across the round bringing the stitch count back to the appropriate stitch number in pattern as written. This process of switching between smaller size to larger size needles is done in two places in the pattern.
