The Autumn Fern Socks embrace the beauty of ferns and nature during the transition to cooler weather. These cosy socks are written for cuff down construction, and feature engaging colorwork motifs of ferns and fronds wrapping themselves around the leg and foot.

Yarn: The pattern uses approximately 350yds/320m of fingering weight yarn. The sample shown uses a 100g skein of Eden Cottage Yarns Hayton 4ply in the “Red Kite” colourway (380yds/350m per 100g), and 20g of Mr B Yarn Hiddleston 4 ply in the “Rust Spot” colourway (437yds/400m per 100g).

Recommended Needle Size: 2.5mm (US Size 1) or appropriate size to obtain gauge. 2.75mm (US Size 2) for colorwork sections.

Gauge: 30 sts / 42 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch

Size: Due to the colorwork motif, this pattern is written for one size – 64 sts. The width/circumference can be adjusted by using a different needle size. For a medium sock (8 inch circumference) I used a 2.5mm (US Size 1) needle. Please note that the cable texture provides a tighter fabric, and I found a better fit by using a needle one size larger than I usually would when knitting socks. Length is customisable.

Notions: Tapestry Needle, Progress marker, Tape Measure
