Autumn in Taos Shawl Too
This is the smaller version of the original Autumn in Taos shawl, designed in honor of the Taos, New Mexico, 35th annual Wool Festival. In this version, the neutral colors of the background help the green of the aspen leaves pop out. This version has 5 aspen leaves across the border, instead of the 7 of the larger version.
The crescent-shaped shawl starts with a ridged pattern in the black-grey-white variegated yarn. The aspen leaf color (green) is added in stripes from which the slip stitch “stems” of the aspen leaves grow. The border is knitted on, with intarsia aspen leaves in a background of white with black flecks.
Size: The shawl is about 15” deep and 65” from tip to tip.
Gauge: 6 stitches and 8 rows to 1 inch in stockinette after blocking.
Needles: 32” or 40” circular in size 4
Yarn: About 600 yards of fingering weight yarn in 3 colors:
MC - black/white/grey variegated, about 50 g
CC1 - leaf color (green), about 50 g
CC2 - leaf background (white speckle) about 50 g
