Autumn Open Windows Shawl
Outside the open window
The morning air is all awash with angels.
~Richard Wilbur
Welcome to Stacey Namaste Designs. This shawl is part of my Finding Joy series. ”Joy is not a constant. It comes to us in moments - often ordinary moments. Sometimes we miss out on the bursts of joy because we’re too busy chasing down the extraordinary moments.” ~Brené Brown. This series was inspired in order to help us recognize the joy in the little things and ordinary moments that too often pass us by.
This shawl is designed to provide the maker agency, choice, and variation - you can use any yarn, any size, any color scheme, any order of the patterns. The yarn I chose, Tweed Delight by Hobbii, is a wool mix tweed yarn made from a lovely soft wool, creating a rustic structure that flows softly. I chose the color Amber Glow because it reminded me of the orange leaves and pumpkins I’d just placed on my front porch. My husband grew them in his school garden, and they make me smile! The shawl is an oblong parallelogram shape for a variety of styling options.
This design, Autumn Open Windows, was inspired by the AMAZING feeling, after a hot summer, of opening windows in the morning and allowing them to stay open ALL day. When the weather changes with the new fall season, the air is crisp, and my home feels fresh and awakens the senses; the sound of rustling leaves on the trees along with soft wind chimes, the smell of people starting to use their fireplaces and the beautiful sights of the leaves on the pistache trees showing off new hues daily of deep red, bright orange, and mustard yellow - just breathtaking.
The photographed example is with Hobbii Tweed Delight, in color Amber Glow (18), 18 stitches to 24 rows for 4,” needle sizes 9 and 10.5. This yarn is a wool/acrylic/viscose mix in 50g skeins, 109 yards each. I used 4 skeins for this project.
