Autumn Rays Shawl
A triangular shawl perfect for those chillier autumn days, and into the winter. Wrap it round your neck like a scarf or wear it as a throw over your shoulders: this shape of shawl is very versatile.
The pattern features textured ridges spreading from the spine like rays of sunshine with the orange red brown colours of this Mille Colori Lang yarn reminiscent of pumpkins, warm fires and leaves.
You’ll need just one 200g ball of the Mille Colori to complete the shawl, but by all means substitute something else - although this yarn is typically thought of as Aran weight, we are knitting it here as a DK weight yarn with 4mm needles. As gauge is not so important feel free to change the needle size to get the kind of fabric you want for your shawl. This is intended as a “knit to the end of the ball” shawl.
This triangular shawl starts in the top middle with a garter tab. The increases are along the spine and the outer edge. The central stitch is stockinette (knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side) and there is a 3-stitch garter border on each side.
Sections of the textured ray pattern are broken up with garter blocks. Finished off with a picot cast off to give it a shaped edge which will sit perfectly round your neck or shoulders.
The pattern has both charts and written instructions and there is an accompanying stitch guide (separate document, included in your download) which explains in detail and with pictures: the garter tab, cdd stitch, the picot cast off, and a tip for fixing forgotten yarn overs on the next row without unpicking.
The pattern is suitable for advanced beginners and since it has a repetitive and easy to learn pattern, it’s a good “TV project” too!
If you have any issues with the pattern do feel free to get in touch with me, I’m always happy to help.
