This pattern makes a snug pair of fingerless mittens which easily fit in a coat pocket or a bag when they’re not needed but can keep your hands cosy and warm when the cold strikes! The ribbing on the palm side, and cabling on the back of the hand creates an elastic fabric which will hug your hands. I really don’t enjoy wearing baggy fingerless mitts because I hate the cold draughts of air that try and weasel their way in and steal your warmth! The stretchy cast on and bind off will help to maintain the elasticity of the fabric and will make it easier to put the mittens on and take them off. The design elements of ribbing and cabling also gives a slightly denser fabric which helps the thinner fingering weight/4ply yarn to keep you warm. If you are new to cabling, this would be a great first project to practice a simple four stitch cable.
