AUX is a richly textured half-circle shawl! It uses an intense contrast color against a calmer (but still tonally interesting) main color, but this design has enough texture and lace to carry itself well in a single neutral color, if preferred.

This shawl is designed to knit up in two skeins of about 440 yards of fingering yarn. I used one full skein of Malabrigo Sock and about half a skein of Juliespins Euro Fingering for the main sample.

Materials:

  • 440 yds of MC (Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Cirrus Gray) and 420 yds CC (Juliespins Euro Fingering in Packham Pear).
  • 1 40” circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge.
  • Tapestry needle.

Gauge:
Gauge is 12 sts and 14 rows over 2”/5cm in what I know as moss stitch (pattern as written, Rows 43-46).

In garter stitch, it’s 9 sts and 20 rows over 2”/5cm. Both swatches were blocked, but it may still be easier to take your gauge from the moss stitch section if you’re sourcing it from work in progress.

(Even though I offer a couple of gauge-checking options for this, and you should check your gauge, it’s a shawl; gauge is important to the yardage requirements and the size of your finished work, but it’s not important to fit in this case.)
