The Avalon Jacket is worked in one color yarn, in a heavy worsted gauge, with 2 different needle sizes. The number of skeins (143 yds. each) required for each of 8 sizes ranges from 7 to 12 skeins.

The back, fronts, and sleeves of this cozy jacket are worked from the bottom up, beginning with a Tubular Cast On and 1x1 ribbing, changing to a cable following the ribbing. Each sleeve is 3/4 long ending in a saddle shoulder. An unusual Tie Cable runs up the middle of the back, and well as up the middle of each sleeve into the saddle shoulder. The front band is worked in conjunction with each front, and continues around the back of the neck where it is seamed at the center back with a 3-needle bind off.
