Avelana is a triangle shawl featuring different textured stripes and a center spine with a twisted cable motif. Ending with a cosy ribbed border, this shawl makes a good project for using up lonely skeins. Play with three colours of fingering weight yarn and see how the cables, transitions and rib motifs interact or make a single colour version to let every textured motif stand out on its own.
The shawl is knit flat from the top. Increases are made on the sides and in the center. The garter border is worked to keep the top edge elastic.
The pattern comes with charts as well as row by row written instructions. Detailed stitch counts are also given for each section.

Yarn :
Three colours of fingering weight yarn in the following amounts :
C1 : 355 meters / 388 yards
C2 : 180 meters / 197 yards
C3 : 265 meters / 290 yards
or 800 meters / 875 yards total for the single colour version.

Gauge & needles :
18 stitches x 20 rows per 10 cm / 4 inches in garter stitch knitted flat after blocking on 4 mm (US 6) needles.
Use the needle size that gets you the desired gauge and fabric. Note that a different gauge will affect the meterage / yardage necessary.
