Seven avocados in a cheerful ring feature in this unusual doily. Traditional lace doily techniques join with modern motifs for an eye-catching end result.

This doily uses approximately 370 yards of size 10 crochet thread in the following colors:

• 20 yds brown
• 50 yds dark green
• 100 yds light green
• 200 yds white

This pattern is worked in an unusual order: first the avocados are made and joined in a ring. Then the center is worked and joined to the ring of avocados. Then the border is worked around the outside.

Additionally, the avocados contain short rows to elongate the body, and the border contains short rows to fill in the spaces between the bottoms of the avocados.

The two-color border is worked with a special not-quite-fastening off technique, which gives very neat color changes.
