Anne was orphaned at 3 months, so she was passed from family to family. As a result, Anne never felt as if she had a home. That is until she is adopted by the Cuthberts. Anne has a wild imagination and renames things so that they seem more romantic. But when she sees Green Gables for the first time, it needs no new name. The home itself is magical enough.

This shawl is inspired by the story, Anne of Green Gables, first published in 1908 by L.M. Montgomery. The shawl represents the first view Anne had of her new home: Green Gables, which was located in Avonlea. From top to bottom, the shawl features the open sky, followed by the house: Green Gables. Next is the picket fence surrounding the house. A field of flowers flows downward. The Flowers start small and slowly get larger, which creates a feeling of perspective. The edge of the shawl is just like the edge of Barry’s Pond, better known as The Lake of Shining Waters.

The shawl starts from the top center and is knit outward. A tutorial for the tab cast on is included in the pattern.
