What is mean “Avos’ka” ?
It is the Russian name of the mesh grocery bag used mainly to visit markets and shops. Avos’ka was very popular in the USSR. The Soviet shops did not have plastic shopping bags, the buyer had to be in possession of one.
Once I read on a blog about a sewing project - a fabric bag to put in a crochet avos’ka. And then I thought, why not to crochet an avos’ka with a lining to it all at once?! To achieve this effect, I used the simple stitch of overlay technique in my version of Avos’ka.

The Avos’ka Shopper Bag is perfect for the everyday use and for trips to the local market. It is very roomy! Also with this design you can not be afraid to experiment with colors – the most insane and the most incongruous are suitable for it. Make it in your own custom color combos!

The pattern is written in two sizes. The Great Avos’ka Bag is 18” (45 cm) height, 17” (44 cm) width, the straps length is 13” (34 cm). And if you have a little one who is your helper while shopping, you can crochet a Petite Avos’ka Bag for the little one too (height – 10” (25cm), width – 9.5” (24 cm), straps length – 10” (25 cm).

The pattern includes only written round-by-round instructions. Also you will find in the pattern the photo-tutorial how to carry yarns without cutting and joining often. You have very few yarn ends to weave when done. Pattern is written using US crochet terminology.
Skills needed: basic crochet skills (ch, sc, dc, dc2tog, sc2tog) and special stitches (trtr, color change dc, trtr2tog). The Special Stitch Guide and photo-tutorial to it are provided.

For Petite Size
MC: approx. 280 – 300 yards (260 – 275 meters)
CC: approx. 140 – 160 yards (130 – 150 meters)
For Great Size
MC: approx. 655 – 670 yards (600 – 615 meters)

HOOK
Sizes E/4 (3.5 mm) and size D/3 (3 – 3.25 mm). Adjust hook size. If necessary, to obtain correct gauge.
NOTIONS Yarn needle; stitch markers
GAUGE
26 sc and 28 rows = 4” square (10cm X 10cm) over single crochet with crochet hook E/4 (3.5 mm)
