My sister-in-law wanted something to protect her hardwood from her bar stools but didn’t want them to look like they were wearing socks, so I came up with these little numbers inspired by the beanbag-ish feet you see on some sofas. They’re unobtrusive and can be made in any colour to match the barstool legs. They fit over the little metal bits on the bottom of the leg, not the leg itself.

This is my pattern so please don’t adopt it, spread it around without attribution or sell it. That would be tacky. But feel free to make them as much as you like, and give them away or even sell them. My little pattern, but the finished item is the fruit of your labour. :)

They’d probably do well at a church bazaar or whatever, if that’s your bag. But be careful making these for other people. They do eventually wear out and you will continually be asked to make replacements :(

Materials:

  • Worsted-weight handicrafter cotton
  • 1/2 inch elastics to match cotton

Tools:

  • G/4.25 mm crochet hook
  • Darning needle

Instructions:

  1. Stack 4 elastics (base for stretchy opening)
  2. Insert crochet hook though hole of elastic stack and pull up loop of cotton. Make 16 single crochet encasing elastics; spread out stitches to cover well.
  3. Do two more rounds of single crochet (16 sc in each round). Do not join between rounds, just continue in spiral fashion.
  4. Next round decrease by sc2tog 8 times.
  5. Final round: pull up a loop in each of remaining 8 sc in round (9 loops on hook). Clip yarn, leaving 6-8 inches to work with.
  6. Finishing: thread tail onto darning needle and pull through all loops, removing hook as you go. Pull tight and weave in all ends really securely.

Pop on barstool feet and protect your floors! :)
