This historical-inspired pattern is for a hat that is great for gifting! The design is based on an Aztec tile mosaic.

Size: OSFM Teen-Adult

Materials:

  • DK to Worsted yarn, 220-280yds/200-250m to 100g) - you will need a Main Color (MC), Background Color (BGC) in a light or dark, and a Contrast Color (CC) the opposite of the background color (so, dark if BG is light, light if BG is dark)
  • Alternately you could use Sport weight to achieve a child size.
  • Beginning of Round stitch marker

Needle size:
16” (40cm) long Circular needle in size: 5-6 (4.75-5mm) for Worsted, or size needed to obtain gauge. Gauge is important to size. The pattern is designed with just a little negative ease. You should get 20st/22 rows to 4”/10cm in worsted. You will need DPNs for decreases.

Stitches used:
K = Knit
P = Purl
K2Tog = Knit 2 together
MC = Main Color (Go crazy! Go wild!)
BGC = Background Color (pale or dark)
CC = Contrast Color (dark if BG is pale or vice versa)
CO = Cast on
