Aztec Flower Mittens
This is an easy color work pattern to make. The geometric design is easy enough to follow, once you’ve done a repeat, that you won’t have to check the chart very often.
This design was actually a rug that we saw at Ikea and my daughter in law wanted a pair of mittens, “Just like that”. So I took a picture of the rug and made this pattern.
I love the Aztec design with the checkered cuff and thumb. You can do the thumb in the same color as the hand of the mitten or do it in a contrasting color as I’ve shown here.
I give instructions on how to make different sizes using different needle sizes and instructions on how to measure to see what size mitten you will need.
There is also a step by step photographed tutorial on how to make the Latvian Braid detail on the cuff.
YARN- You will need:
- 1 1/2 skeins (around 144 yards per 50 gm skein) of your background color. (cream)
- 3/4 of a skein of your pattern color (gold )
- 1/4 skein for the contrast color for the cuff and thumb. (black )
NEEDLES- You will need either a set of double pointed needles or a long circular to do magic loop and knit in the round.
For a size 7 mitten (xsm) size 1, size US 2 for small, US3 for med and US 4 for a med large (size 9).
