Welcome the Babel Top, inspired by a phenomenal book that sparked my creativity ✨

This top works up in a flash and it is incredibly versatile, giving you endless styling options: you can choose to wear it open and layer it with other pieces, or add some adorable buttons for a cozy touch. Get creative and personalize it to suit your unique style!

This pattern is all about that unique double crochet technique and those gorgeous lace shoulders, making it the perfect project for a chill weekend.

Not only is this pattern made to measure, meaning it’s customisable to your desired length and width, but I’ve also included helpful guidelines and stitch count suggestions to ensure you achieve the perfect fit possible.
I designed it to be suitable for everyone, no matter what size, gender, and body shape HOWEVER, it is true that each body is different, and there may be variations in how the pattern fits from person to person.

Skill level: Advanced Beginner

Supplies Needed:

• Hook 5 mm (or corresponding hook to meet the gauge swatch)
• Between 300 and 1000 yards of #4 Medium Weight Yarn (For size S, I’ve used 2 skeins of The Recycled Yarn from We Are Knitters in colour Grey)
• Scissors
• Tape Measure
• Yarn needle
• Buttons (optional)

The pattern has pictures to clarify the written instructions.

*This design has been tested by people with different bodies and bra cups: from size Xs to size XXL*

As previously mentioned, the Babel top is inspired by the book Babel, an incendiary novel from award-winning author R.F. Kuang about the power of language, the violence of colonialism, and the sacrifices of resistance. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it!
