Baby Bay Leaves Square
Here’s another way to knit leaves: start at the leaf tip and work toward the stem! This style leaf is also in “Dunraven Square” from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 6 or Knitting Counterpanes by Mary Walker Phillips. The leaves will point downwards while knitting. Make 4 squares and sew the stem corners together. Make as many blocks as needed for your project. Any edging around the finished project is optional.
A Baby Bay Leaves unit will be 3” square when worked to gauge.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, YO, M1 (make a new stitch by knitting the horizontal thread/yarn between the stitch just worked and the next stitch), ktbl (knit through back loop), ptbl (purl through back loop), S2KP2 (slip 2 as if to k2tog, k 1 stitch, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knit stitch), k2tog, k3tog and p3tog.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.
