Baby Bear Cub
Baby Bear Cub is 4-1/2 inches tall, and was designed with a large head and eyes and short legs and arms to have that sweet “baby” look. Baby was designed and made with Paton’s Lacette, which has since been discontinued. However, you can use any size yarn/thread you choose, with the appropriate hook size. A good choice would be a fingering yarn with a size 10 hook. Make Baby tinier by using punch thread with a size 12 hook. He/she is 5-way jointed, with a cotter pin/disk-jointed head and thread-jointed limbs. Instructions are provided for jointing, attaching eyes, and include color photos of the finished bear.
Materials:
• For a 4-1/2 inch bear: Paton’s Lacette yarn (Cream Caress color) (see notes above)
• Size 10 (1.3mm) crochet hook
• Two 5-mm blue teddy bear eyes, or color of choice
• Two ½ inch discs and one ¾“ cotter pin
• One ¼” (7mm) purchased oval nose with straight wire (optional)
• Stuffing of choice
• Charcoal gray embroidery floss or size 12 crochet thread
• Sewing Needles: 2-1/2-inch sharp; small blunt tapestry
• Small hemostat, dowel, long tweezers, or other long, narrow tool for stuffing
• Small needle-nose pliers for turning cotter pin
• Wire cutters (if using purchased nose)
• Watercolor pencils for shading, rose pink, light umber, and
colorless blender; charcoal or black for panda (optional)
(Prismacolor used for model)
Gage: Gage is not important for this pattern; however, since various conditions can affect your tension, it is suggested that when making two pieces that must be the same, such as arms and legs, you make both in one sitting
