This chunky bonnet is a quick and easy project for an intermediate crocheter to whip up, or a good, basic challenge for a motivated beginner who is familiar with the stitches.

Although it only uses one ball of
aran yarn, it’s a warm and chunky-feeling winter hat thanks to the use of the front-post-double-crochet stitches that make up the majority of the pattern.

The bonnet is made as one flat piece (including the ties) and then joined, with no fastening off. A pompom is added at the end.

Size:
This is a baby-sized bonnet that should fit up to 6 months, however the stitch is fairly stretchy and all heads vary. It has been designed to fit around the baby’s brow line, cover their ears and tie under the
chin.

Size adjustments can be made by increasing the size of the hooks by 0.5mm, or adding rows to the rib
and following the pattern through with more rows.

You will need a 50g ball of any Aran weight yarn, plus a contrasting colour for the pom pom, and a 5.5mm crochet hook.
