The pattern is written in US crochet terms but with a conversion chart at the beginning of the pattern to UK / Australian terms. Its just that some of the names of the stitches are different.

Materials & tools you will need:
★ Acrylic or other yarn - DK, Double Knitting in UK, Light Worsted in the USA, 8ply in Australia.
★ Crochet hooks sizes 4.5 mm for hat and 3.5 mm for booties.
★ Satin ribbon 1 m (39”), 10 mm (0.4”) wide.
★ 1 pearl bead.
